FACULTY RESEARCH ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Research Related Issues Currently Being Discussed by FRAC

The Faculty Research Advisory Committee has established a number of subcommittees to examine manners in which research activities could be enhanced. In general, these focus on infrastructure and administrative issues that impact the intellectual and physical environment. These are handled by ad hoc committees that address specific areas of concern. It has become increasingly clear that, as a result of these disucssions, FRAC can serve an important role as an ombudsman to represent individual investigators, or groups of investigators, in bringing research-related problems to the attention of the campus administration.

In the past two years, these have included: library services, housekeeping, facilities and maintenance (laboratory renovations), emergency response to floods and other disruptions, environmental concerns and the Research Foundation (post award services, personnel matters, etc.). Future efforts will concern Human Resources and support from the central administration (Dean's Office).

Other issues that are being explored by FRAC include incentives to encourage faculty to apply for multiple grant awards, a strategic alliance with Polytechnic University (bioengineering and genomics) and a strategic alliance with the Staten Island Institute for Basic Research (neuroscience and genetics).
