About Us

SUNY Downstate Medical Center’s goal is to establish Brooklyn as a center for biotech research and development. Downstate’s Biotechnology Park consists of a 50,000 sq. ft. Biotechnology Incubator for start-ups and early-stage biotech companies, and a 13,000 sq. ft. commercial synthetic chemistry facility.

The Biotechnology Incubator offers wet laboratory / office space and is ideal for companies that prefer the close proximity to the university community and access to its resources – seminars, collaborations with scientists, medical/scientific library, students for internships, and clinical trials. The synthetic chemistry facility offers 26 fume hoods and other specialized equipment.

For companies that require larger space,  BioBAT in the nearby Brooklyn Army Terminal spans 524,000 sq. ft. BioBAT is intended for tenants that require between 5,000 to 150,000 sq. ft. of research and manufacturing space and offers ample room for expansion.

Downstate has also addressed biotech companies’ need for trained personnel. Downstate’s Ph.D. program enables students to work with companies, and Downstate, together with Hunter College of CUNY, established a market-driven laboratory technician training program.

We welcome the opportunity to help you meet your biotech space needs.
